In March 2023, Sr. Probation Officer Dylan Shaffer (West Virginia Southern) was awarded the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officer Association's (FPPOA) 2023 Mid-Atlantic Line Officer the Year Award. Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston presented Dylan with this distinguished award during a ceremony at the U.S. Courthouse in Charleston, West Virginia.

U.S. Pretrial Services Intensive Supervision Specialist Matthew Szmytke was presented with the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA) 2022 Charles Venz Western Region Line Officer of the Year award in Flagstaff, AZ. The award was presented to Officer Szmytke by Chief U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow, U.S. Magistrate Judge Camille D. Bibles, Chief U.S. Pretrial Services Officer Sean Harmon, Deputy Chief U.S. Pretrial Services Officer Pete Rea, and Assistant Deputy Chief Probation Officer Sharie Lutt, with various staff members present virtually and in person, in addition to Officer Szmytke’s fiancé and parents in attendance in person.

On February 7, 2023, Senior U.S. Probation Officer Bethany Blackmon (Sr. USPO Blackmon) of the Northern District of Oklahoma was presented with the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA) 2022 Adolfo Sanchez Central Region Line Officer of the Year award. The award was presented in the Tulsa Office of the Northern District of Oklahoma with many staff in attendance. Sr. USPO Blackmon was unaware she would be the recipient of this award, and Chief U.S. Probation Officer Ashley Schneeberg organized the ceremony under the guise of a staff meeting. Sr. USPO Blackmon was the first in her district's history to receive FPPOA's Line Officer of the Year award.

On December 14, 2022, Northern District of Illinois Probation officer Tiffany Kang was presented the Federal Probation Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA) Great Lakes Region Line Officer of the Year (LOY) award. Officer Kang won the award for her leading contributions in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She leads a 6th & 7th Circuit mentorship program that provides a space for staff members to feel valued, respected and appreciated in the position. Congratulations, Tiffany for continued contribution to our system!

On February 15, 2023, the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA) presented the 2022 Charles Lionel Chute Northeast Region Line Officer of the Year award in the Southern District of New York. U.S. Probation Officer Ji’vonne H Gilmore received the award in front U.S. Probation colleagues and staff. The presentation was the first item at a staff meeting and was a pleasant surprise to PO Gilmore. Chief United States District Judge Laura Taylor Swain began the meeting by describing the contributions of PO Gilmore and the award was presented by FPPOA Northeast Region President Josh Rothman.

2022 DOYLE AWARD

U.S. Probation Officer John Fulford (Georgia Middle) recently received the 2022 Federal Probation and Pretrial Officers Association (FPPOA) Southeast Region Line Officer of the Year Award and the 2022 Richard F. Doyle National Line Officer of the Year Award. John has been a United States probation officer in the Middle District of Georgia since 2003.
